The staggering loss of lives that resulted from the collapse of a building complex housing five export-quality garment factories in Bangladesh bring to light the multi-national apparel brands' failure in terms of ethical trading, the abuse of garment workers as sources of cheap labour and income and how ethical consumerism can in fact make a difference in changing consumers' attitude towards ethical manufacturing, thus pressurizing brands to act more ethically when outsourcing manufacturing of garments.
