Bent rib : a journey through women's issues in Islam Huda Khattab - Riyadh : International Islamic Publishing House, c2010. - 176 p. ; 23 cm.

From the back of the book: Bent Rib: A Journey Through WomenĦs Issues in Islam is the result of the authorĦs exploration of a number of issues surrounding Muslim women, especially those which critics of Islam use as ammunition. These are issues which are concern to all Muslim women. Bent Rib examines a number of controversial issues such as domestic violence, female genital mutilation and failure to educate girls, and points out the divergence between Islamic teaching and actual culturally-influenced, practice. The problem is not Islam itself, but un-Islamic practices that are prevalent in many communities, a situation which has to be addressed. Huda Khattab is a British-born Muslim writer who holds a BA (Hons.) degree in Arabic from the School of Oriental and African Studies (London University). She is the author of The Muslim WomenĦs Handbook and Stories from The Muslim World, and has also translated several books from Arabic. Huda Khattab is married, and lives with her husband and children in Toronto, Canada.
