Globalization has led to compete for expertise to exploit the nature s resources around the world for holistic sustainable development, which can be combated with information and knowledge management (KM). The technological developments and reforms over the last few decades have led to increasing proportion of today s wealth creating industries that are knowledge intensive. It is thus necessary to gain insights on trends and opportunities facing information and knowledge management (IKM) professionals of the region and facilitate arguments and deliberations in the thematic areas in an endeavour to chalk out a plan of action for settling the priorities for sustainable development in the region by providing a platform to constructively direct knowledge management best practices and innovations from dialogue to action. The present edited volume, Knowledge Management for Sustainable Development, deals with various aspects of knowledge management for strategizing so as to built inclusive knowledge societies for sustainable development. The volume has been divided in three parts. Part I includes eleven research articles. Broadly, it contains work ranging from economics of knowledge to methods of knowledge management, to ICT and K (Knowledge) framework for e-governance projects, knowledge systems and knowledge networks, and building knowledge for organizational effectiveness and KM in higher education. Part II presents case studies and focuses on as to how by transforming experience into learning through practitioners case presentations from various international and regional organizations have effectively managed the knowledge and created knowledge hubs. Lastly, Part III presents a broad report on the different perspectives and perceptions of knowledge management in developing societies. Thus the volume covers interests of wide range of readers including information and knowledge managers, policy makers, professionals and practitioners, students and civil society and would find its place among personnel in all types of institutions and libraries. |
