While preparing a different book (a collection of reprints), the editors landed on the idea of asking leading scholars to share their current thoughts on some of the themes. The result is a collection of 30 original contributions from economists and business academics and professionals based in at least a half dozen countries in Europe and North America. Themes addressed include the social desirability of innovation and entrepreneurship (e.g. social good and social evil, the entrepreneurial role); institutions and innovation (industrial policy, financing constraints, microfinance organizations; the geography of innovation (classical and random urban growth models, for example); technology transfer (what scientists think about commercialization activities, universities as research partners); firms and innovation (incentives, knowledge, and need); and the making of the entrepreneur (genetics of entrepreneurship, education). The four editors are affiliated as follows: David B. Audretsch (economic development, Indiana U.); Oliver Falck (economic research, U. of Munich, Germany); Stephan Heblich (economics, U. of Stirling, UK); and Adam Lederer (DIW Berlin, Germany).
